问题如下：六（1）班同学上体育课，排成3行少1人，排成4行多3人，排成5行少1人，排成6行多5人。问上体育课的同学最少多少名？

分析：看到这个问题，首先容易让人想到著名的“剩余定理”，但似乎又有点不一样，剩余定理中全是排成几队多几人的情况，不像这里有多的有少的。事实上这道题还没有达到剩余定理的难度。那该怎样解决呢？

仔细分析“排成4行多3人”这句话，也就是还差1人就能正好排成4行，或者也可以说成“排成4行少1人”。同样道理，“排成6行多5人”也可以说成“排成6行少1人”。这样以来，题目的解答方法就变得明了了，因为六（1）班的人数排成3行、4行、5行、6行都少1人，所以人数最少就是比3、4、5、6的最小公倍数少1。

先求出3、4、5、6的最小公倍数，

3＝3

4＝2×2

5＝5

6＝2×3

所以它们的最小公倍数就是2×3×2×5＝60，六（1）班人数最小有60-1＝59（人）。
