某校男生人数比全校学生人数的4/7少25人，女生人数比全校学生人数的4/9多15人，该校总共有学生多少人？

分析：这题既可以用算术方法，也可以列方程解决，下面先说说算术方法：

先假设男生正好是全校学生人数的4/7，女生正好是全校学生人数的4/9。那么将这两个数相加：4/7+4/9＝64/63，发现男生与女生合起来比单位“1”还多：64/63-1＝1/63。为什么会出现这种情况呢？原来男生并不是全校学生人数的4/7，而是还要少25人；女生也并不是全校学生人数的4/9，而是要多15人；这两种情况合并在一起，就相当于把总人数多算了：25-15＝10（人），也就是说：全校总人数的1/63正好是10人，这样总人数就好算了：10÷1/63＝630（人）。

整理方程后，变为：64/63×x-10＝x

再两边同时减去x，得：1/63×x-10＝0，最后解得：x＝630，同样得解。
